Saudi Arabia Announces Official Start of Eid Al Fitr on April 21

New Moon Sighted, Confirming Celebration Date

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia - April 20, 2023

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has officially announced that the first day of Eid Al Fitr, the festival that marks the end of the holy fasting month of Ramadan, will fall on Friday, April 21, 2023.

The announcement came after a new moon was sighted on Thursday evening following Maghrib prayers. According to Islamic tradition, the sighting of the new moon signifies the end of the lunar month and the beginning of the next.

The Saudi Arabian International Astronomy Centre had previously predicted that Eid Al Fitr would likely fall on April 21. This prediction has now been confirmed by the official sighting of the new moon.

Eid Al Fitr is a major celebration in Saudi Arabia and throughout the Muslim world. It is a time for family gatherings, feasting, and prayer. Many businesses and government offices close for several days during Eid, allowing people to enjoy the festivities.
