Auburn Adds Hugh Freeze as Head Football Coach

Freeze Led Liberty to Four Bowl Games

Auburn Hired Hugh Freeze as 31st Head Coach

Bruce Feldman, David Ubben, and Aaron Suttles report that Auburn has hired Hugh Freeze as its next football coach. Freeze, who led Liberty to four bowl games and a 34-15 record, is the 31st head coach in Auburn's history. He was hired in 2022 following the firing of Bryan Harsin.

Freeze resigned from his position at Ole Miss in 2017 after a one-minute call to a female escort service. However, he has since expressed regret for his actions and said that he has learned from his mistakes.

Auburn is hoping that Freeze can help turn around its football program, which has struggled in recent years. The Tigers finished with a 6-6 record in 2022, their third straight losing season.

Freeze is a proven winner at the college level. He has a career record of 78-39, including a 53-20 mark at Liberty. He also led Ole Miss to a Sugar Bowl victory in 2015.

Auburn is bringing Freeze back to the Southeastern Conference, where he coached for 11 seasons at Ole Miss. He is familiar with the SEC and its challenges, which should help him succeed at Auburn.

The hiring of Freeze is a bold move by Auburn. He is a polarizing figure, but he is also a proven winner. If Freeze can keep his personal issues behind him, he could be the coach who leads Auburn back to prominence.
